Estimated Price For A Quarter of Beef

A 700 lb. animal will yield an approximate 385 lb. hanging weight.

1/4 of 385 would be 96.25 lbs.

96.25 lbs @ $4.00 per lb. would be $385.00 to me for the animal.

The processor would be owed the $50 kill fee (1/4 share = $12.50) plus $0.68 per lb. processing fee:

96.25 lbs. X $0.68 = $65.46 + $50/4 = $12.50, for a total of $77.95 (processor’s fee).

Thus, the total cost for a quarter (in this example) would be:

$385.00 to 3B Farms Beef and $ 77.95 to the processor for a total of $462.95

I would say that would be within $50.00 either way of the final cost.

There is a $125 down payment for a quarter, which, of course, will be deducted from the final cost. That’s about as close as I can get to an accurate, good-faith estimate.

A half of beef in this example would be approximately twice the amount of a quarter or $925.90.

A 1000 lb. animal will yield an approximate 533 lb. hanging weight.

1/4 of 533 would be 133 lbs.

133 lbs @ $4.00 per lb. would be $532.00 to 3B Farms for the animal.

The processor would be owed the $50 kill fee (1/4 share = $12.50) plus $0.68 per lb. processing fee:

133 lbs. X $0.68 = $90.44 + $50/4 = $12.50, for a total of $102.94 (processor’s fee).

Thus, the total cost for a quarter (in this example) would be:

$532.00 to 3B Farms and $102.94 to the processor for a total of $634.94.

I would say that would be within $100 either way of the final cost.

A half of beef in this example would be approximately twice the amount of a quarter or $1,269.88.
